Table Talk Foundation – sponsor of the BRAVOs Best Team category – is a Sussex based charity providing food education to children in Sussex and supporting our local hospitality industry.
Childhood obesity levels have more than doubled in the last 10 years. By the time children finish primary school, 1 in 3 are overweight or obese, with 1 in 5 children obese.
We work with the Adopt a School Trust to bring our full time professional chef teacher into primary schools to deliver a high-quality food education programme. We help children develop healthy eating habits, encourage enthusiasm for food, and give them insight into the hospitality industry.
In 2022 our wonderful chef John delivered food education to 25 schools and holiday clubs. That is over 1,000 children!
By improving opportunities for children and changing a generation’s attitude to food we can go some way to combat health inequalities. Early intervention and preventative work is critical to addressing the nation’s health crisis.
At the same time, we provide mental and physical health support and financial assistance to our local hospitality industry.The hospitality sector employs over 3 million people in the UK. Businesses within the hospitality sector are three times more likely to fail than any other sector. Hospitality is a fantastic place to work and we need to make sure it, and the people who keep it going, continue to thrive.
In 2022 we donated £12,000 in grants to Hospitality Action who help thousands of people within the UK hospitality industry who find themselves in difficulty or crisis. In 2023 we will build on this with the implementation of our support programme, starting with fully funded Mental Health Awareness Training for managers.
